In 2020, Tricia learned she was pregnant and gave birth to a healthy baby boy in 2021. Her joy was tempered when her mother’s health deteriorated, leaving Tricia as her primary caregiver while navigating the demands of new motherhood. Balancing her son’s needs, her own postpartum recovery, and her mother’s care was overwhelming. She experienced a whirlwind of emotions—sadness, anxiety, depression, joy, and love—all while dealing with physical symptoms like headaches and dizziness.
Recognizing she couldn’t manage everything alone, Tricia sought help. With support from her husband, friends, and community, she placed her son in daycare and hired a nanny. This decision allowed her to focus on her mother’s care and her own recovery.
Her experiences inspired her to address the misconceptions around postpartum care. Co-founding Mommaste with Dr. LeTea Perry, Tricia aims to extend postpartum care beyond the traditional six weeks, addressing the unique emotional, mental, and physical needs of each mother. Mommaste’s mission is to empower mothers to embrace their journey with community support.
When she became a mother of two post-COVID, without her own mother’s support, Tricia was determined to establish strong support systems. She enlisted the help of postpartum doulas, who provided invaluable assistance and self-care expertise. This empowered her to manage the challenges of motherhood with confidence.
Tricia’s mantra is: “Postpartum care is essential to the motherhood soul,” believing in the importance of support for the mother, father, community, self-care, and marriage. She often says, “The mom in me bows to the mom in you.”
